Tami Neilsonwith special guest Kelly Prescott
Massey Hall presents
With a soulful voice straight from the golden age of country and rockabilly music, Tami Neilson has been described as "A red-hot honky-tonker, somewhere between Patsy Cline and Wanda Jackson with perhaps just a little bit of Peggy Lee sophistication.” (Nick Bollinger, NZ National Radio).
Singing her heart out along endless roads and stages, from her days as a young girl in Canada touring with the Neilson Family band, opening for the likes of Johnny Cash, to her full blossoming in New Zealand as a formidable talent in her own right.
Described as a soundtrack curated for a Tarantino film, Neilson’s latest album SASSAFRASS! delivered subversive lyrics wrapped up in vibrant candy-colored packages of soul, rockabilly, blues and Patsy Cline-esque country in equal measure. Her forthcoming album, CHICKABOOM! is due out on February 14 via Outside Music.
Kelly Prescott comes by her music in the most honest way possible, as a third generation singer/songwriter on both sides of her family. She grew up between a tour bus & a world class recording studio, her childhood steeped in traditional country music. Kelly and her family recently made their Grand Ole Opry debut as guests of Terri Clark. With her highly anticipated new solo album in the works (the first since her 2016 EP “Hillbilly Jewels” featuring Buddy Miller & Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo) Prescott is returning to her roots with the sounds and styles that she loves. Songs that tell stories and tackle tough subjects.
"Tami Neilson is a fire-breathing belter on her own terms."
“One of the best living singers in all of roots music and beyond.”
