Matt Mayswith very special guest Kathleen Edwards
Massey Hall presents
JUNO Award-winning Halifax, NS singer-songwriter Matt Mays and his band headline Massey Hall and performs songs from his latest album Once Upon a Hell of a Time… along with a collection of old favourites, as part of the Live at Massey Hall concert and film series. The night features very special guest and friend of Mays, Kathleen Edwards, who will also perform with her band on the iconic Massey Hall, Allan Slaight Stage.
After departing seminal alt-country collective The Guthries back in 2002, Matt Mays alternated between solo projects (his self-titled debut, the faux soundtrack …When the Angels Make Contact) and band projects (the eponymous Matt Mays & El Torpedo record and 2008’s Terminal Romance). Following the dissolution of Matt Mays & El Torpedo in 2009, Matt released Coyote in 2012 to much acclaim, including the JUNO Award win for Rock Album of the Year.
In 2003 Ottawa singer-songwriter Kathleen Edwards released her debut album Failer, and since then her songs have topped the Billboard charts, she’s been featured in the pages of publications like Rolling Stone and Pitchfork, and has earned several JUNO Award nominations. In 2012, Edwards released her fourth studio album, Voyageur, co-produced with Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, which garnered international critical acclaim including a place on the Polaris Music Prize short list, and the 2012 SOCAN Echo Songwriting award. In 2014, Kathleen took a short break from life on the road to pursue other passions and opened up a coffee shop in her hometown, with the tongue-in-cheek name “Quitters.”
