Long absent from North American stages, one of the most influential women in rock, PJ Harvey, returns to Toronto for her Massey Hall debut. Harvey first turned heads with her 1992 album Dry, followed by the even-more-critically-acclaimed follow-up Rid of Me and, in 1995, the Top-40 charting To Bring You My Love. Over the course of the ensuing two-plus decades, she’s expanded upon her dark, heavy and brooding alt-rock roots, working across genres and with collaborators including Steve Albini and Nick Cave.

The only artist to receive the UK’s prestigious Mercury Prize twice (2001 and 2011 for Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea and Let England Shake) – in addition to receiving two other nominations – Harvey has also received eight Brit Award nominations. She received her seventh Grammy nomination (Best Alternative Music Album) for 2016’s The Hope Six Demolition Project, which Pitchfork called “her most exhilarating rock album in years.”

Of her recent New York performance, Vulture noted that “In the midst of the maelstrom, Harvey held court like alt-rock royalty… The show transfixed thanks to the skill and versatility of all the players, and the synergy that makes Hope Six... so coolly well-rounded,” while the Los Angeles Times said “If times are tough, Harvey seemed to be saying, we may as well go down swinging.”
