Growing Education and Outreach
Education and Outreach programming run by Massey Hall provides ways for people of all ages — and levels of music knowledge — to engage with music in a group setting. Programs are designed for audiences at various stages of life, from grade school students to community elders, and provide different points of access. It’s just one way Massey helps instill a deep love for live music with every generation, not limiting it to, as Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo so memorably put it, “just old codgers like me bringing my kids here saying ‘you should love this place.’”
Focusing on the power of music to enrich lives, Massey Hall’s outreach activities are created in partnership with others who share this vision, and strive to be accessible, inclusive and above all, innovative.
When we speak with our audiences, we often hear:
“Music to me feeds the soul. It doesn’t need words to pull emotions, bring back memories, or make your body move.”
“Music is its own language that taps into something emotional and primal. It’s an alternative form of storytelling.”
“When asked ‘If you could have any wish, what would it be?’ my answer has often been: ‘that my entire life be music.”
